"A City in the Country"

And we wonder why people refer to Abbotsfordians as farmers. I’ve lived in Abby for over 20 years and while that slogan is not my favourite, agriculture has been and continues to be a major reason for this City's success. Regardless of the slogan, I love this city and all it has to offer. I feel like Abbotsford is a very unique blend of city and country. We have a rapidly growing international airport with an airline (WestJet) that now flies all over the continent and beyond. In 2009, we saw the completion of the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment center and The Reach Gallery Museum which showcases some of Greater Vancouver’s best visual arts. The anchor tenant of the Sports center is a brand new American Hockey League Franchise, the Abbotsford Heat. The Heat are the Calgary Flame’s farm team.

If you like the country a little more than the city, Abbotsford has more parks per capita than any other city in the Fraser Valley. We have an expansive trail system ideal for biking or walking and we are surrounded on all sides by The Fraser River, Sumas Mountain and Agricultural Land. If you like outdoor adventure, then Abbotsford is your city.
